I'm Pete Sampson safely back in my hotel in Dallas after Notre Dame's 31-14 lost Alabama and the Rose Bowl played in Arlington.

Matt, you watch the game on TV. I was here live.

I guess what were your immediate takeaways? Like what struck you first about, I guess,

Friday afternoon, Friday evening for Notre Dame? I can't figure out if it was the closest blowout ever,

or if it was a game that teetered on the edge, being a blowout without ever actually being a blowout.

I mean, Alabama was just so methodical in the way they marched down for those first three touchdowns that it just, you know, there wasn't this like death blow.

There wasn't 2012 where like the first time nerdy tried to run the ball. You're like, holy crap. Like this is like this is not even like a game. It was just so methodical that, you know, I immediately think back to Nerdyam's first drive where Eamook throws the ball behind the line of scrimmage to Kyron Williams, where he's in trouble, and then misfires on another pass.

And I'm like, shoot, there was your chance. Like, I hate to think of those terms, but we came into this game saying NERDame had to be perfect to even have a chance to win this game. And their touchdown drive, their first half touchdown drive, was pretty close to perfect, at least the perfect blend of nerding football

that we've come to know and understand in 2020.

They need to do that every single time they had the football tonight, which I don't think

it's really possible.

And even then, when you're playing behind, you can't run the ball that much, which they actually

did an okay job of it.

In fact, a better than okay job of all things considered. But it's more of the same, to be honest. I mean, I wouldn't say they choked. I wouldn't say they got caught up in the hype or anything, but they're just not good enough. And, you know, we'll get to Brian Kelly's comments here in a bit, but we'll probably be having the same conversation after

the season ends next year, whether it's in the playoff or New Year 6 or somewhere worse than that.

I don't know how many times I've got to go through this exercise.

Yeah, I mean, you look at, you know, totally yard is sort of a loser statistic, but, you know,

difference was 62 yards, I believe, or seven, I'm sorry, 70, 67 yards or 62 yards. I mean,
