Everybody thinks they know the Beatles, but how much do we really know?

And we're live on tape from Dublin. This is the second part of our Beatles at Christmas episodes. And in the first part, we looked at the Christmases from 1960 to 1964 and how the Beatles went from being despondent about the future on the back of Hamburg to being the all-conquering pop and rock music champions

of the world.

Topermost of the popermost.

They had kept true to that promise by December in 1964.

So we're going to look at the back end of the 1960s now because as we signed off with

the last time, there aren't really any more mountains left to climb once they get to the end

of 1964.

And you know, I think out of all the rock stars in the world, you can almost forgive the

Beatles for taking the diversion into drugs because they need to turn inwards and find

out more about what's going on.

When you get to the topmost, the popermost, maybe there's nothing there.

Except drugs. Except drugs and spirituality and all the things that kind of...

That would follow.

That kind of attract rock stars. So let's look into December in 1965. And at this point,

they are about to put out the Rubber Soul album. So they've made that album very, very quickly.

And that album's going to be coming out and number one for Christmas.

They're going to put out the simultaneous AA side, We Can Work It Out, and Day Tripper.

And that's going to be a Christmas number one as well.
