Beatles, but how much do we really know?

My name is Jason Carty. My name is Stephen Cockroft. And we are live on tape from Dublin.

This time round, we are going to talk about songs that

feature the Beatles, but not as players or performers. These are songs that feature the Beatles

as an inspiration, as a topic, songs where the Beatles play a part in what the song is about. So it's

a bit of a wide-ranging topic, and it covers a lot of different bases.

But Stephen, you know, it kind of lends itself to the cultural phenomenon that was the Beatles, doesn't it?

It does.

I mean, I think they have had such an influence right across musical sphere, TV, media.

And really that cultural impact dates almost from day one.

And here we are, sort of 50, 60 years later.

Still, people are writing songs and making films about the Beatles.

Absolutely.

Okay.

Well, if we do go back to the start, you know, when the Beatles started,

rock music was still, you know, a young genre.

I think the Beatles might have been seen as a novelty.

So the first songs that we kind of hit upon are novelties themselves, aren't they?

Yes.

So this is a whole sort of genre in itself.

And I mean, we don't, I suppose, have novelty songs now.
