Hello it's Eve here. Welcome to Radio Headspace and to Wednesday. I have just finished teaching

a eight week mindfulness based stress reduction or MBSR class as it's more commonly known.

And one of the main roles as a MBSR teacher is to help folks make their own discoveries

about their struggles and suffering. We don't really provide the answers but instead provide

a space in which folks can discover on their own the answers and solutions to their

stress and difficulties. It's natural to want to have the answer because when we feel

we don't know something or how to do something it can flood our system with embarrassment,

humiliation, and self-doubt. I remember when I first worked in advertising I was fresh

out of college and my boss asked me to help her to put together a deck for a pitch. I immediately

said yes no problem but walked away feeling completely flustered because I actually had

no idea what she meant by a deck. I spent a very sleepless night coming up with all sorts

of scenarios in my mind about what she could possibly mean by a deck. And by the way

if you are wondering what a deck is in the context of a sales meeting it's a presentation

usually done in either keynote or PowerPoint. Very obvious to some but it wasn't to me.

Instead of just saying would you mind explaining what a deck is because I don't know I put

myself through hours of anxiety about how I was going to solve this problem. In the end
