Summary

Was delighted to welcome back the brilliant Matt Forde to lock horns over Labour's start to government. Matt also has some wise words about the rise of Reform and why some football fans see their team like the local council. And of course I shamelessly ask him to do some impressions. What most people think.

0:15.0

Hello.

0:16.0

Now, if you want context on what is happening in Syria, and if you want a background on the events in South

0:23.1

Korea where it was martial law and marital law, I don't know if anybody else read it as

0:27.2

marital law, I certainly have been married 20 years. I thought finally somebody's put some rules

0:32.1

on this thing. Then this is definitely not the podcast to come to, okay? I just want to reassure

0:36.6

everybody, I will not be dipping my feet in those confusing, murky waters of international affairs. And as I bring in this week's guest, returning guest Matt Ford, I'm hoping that are you as ignorant as me, Matt? Are you as in the wilderness on what's been going on? I followed it a bit, but not to any depth. I mean, I listened to a podcast. The news agents did an emergency podcast, and I listened to that. That's as far as... Well, that's good. Yeah, I don't really listen to news podcasts. This is a shocking discovery right beginning here. Because I think what's good about them, obviously, is that you've got really bright people who can put stuff into context of you.

1:12.7

But I like to do my own reading.

1:14.3

So I like to basically the BBC website, the Telegraph website and the Times website are my main go-to places.

1:22.7

I mean, the first thing that a listener will pick up there is that at least two of those are veering right of centre, Matt, when are you going to, when are you going to realise what

1:30.4

you truly are, mate?

1:32.4

Well, according to my Twitter feed, maybe I already have. But the telegraph is so well

1:38.1

written. I get lots of ideas when I read the telegraph. I just find it's really, I just like

1:43.0

the writing. You are pleasingly analogue, you know? It's the website. It's digital. I love the fact that it's in the cybersphere, man. Were you surfing the web earlier as well? Do people still do that? I was surfing. I mean, I used to buy the telegraph in hard copy. And how did that go down at Labour Party? You used to read The Guardian when I was at school, and then just got kind of tired of it, really, about 20 years ago. I thought I'd rather... I also do think it's more interesting to read what your opponents think, really, or people who think differently. So I find that more stimulating, so I really like reading the spectator as well. But the BBC website's good and it because it's comprehensive. Yeah, I mean, one of the reasons I listen to the news agencies just to get angry, really. I mean, it's well produced, you know. But I like it annoying the shit out of me as well. It just gives me that adrenaline jolt. from the moment they go, it's Lewis, it's John, it's Emily. I'm set up. You know those guys that just go on Twitter or X to get angry. That's why I listen to Centa Left podcast. But it's good to know that you do the same thing in the other direction. How are you being about? Are you gigging? Are you touring at the moment? Yeah, I'm on tour at the moment, about halfway through a tour. So I did an Edinburgh run, and then the tour goes until April next year. So you can go to Mapford.com to get tickets to that. What's the title of D-Tor? End of an era. Oh, I see. Like the Taylor Swift thing. I see. So how does it feel, Matt? Now you're shilling for the establishment. You shill.

3:09.8

Well, I'm still taking the piss out of politicians, so I'm fine. It's great for me. I think it's so good to have a new group of people to do the voices of and just new people to take the mick out of.

3:21.2

You know, whether I agree with them or not, they're going to make mistakes. They're going to do things that are silly and funny. And instead of having to go back to the

3:28.8

Tory well, you know, every, you know, just 14 years of it. Oh, my God, you know.

3:34.2

14 years. I mean, he's done very well for that to just become a phrase. I'm not sure all of

3:40.5

it was chaos, but he certainly

3:41.9

planted that seed in the mine. I mean, you know, you always took the piss out of all people,

3:48.4

but I suppose the reason I said it was because when the toys were in power, the presumption

3:52.4

was among a certain group of people was that all I would do was go on stage and say how great
