In the late 20th century

Nor'Aid, or officially the Irish Northern Aid Committee,

was the most prominent Irish-American organisation.

Founded after the outbreak of the troubles, it was established to support the families of IRA prisoners,

and it also became the voice of the Irish Republican movement in North America,

and it would gain a reputation for its ability

to organise high-profile events that grabbed world attention. As you'll hear in this episode

on one occasion in the 1980s, they managed to get the letters UTP, which meant up the provos,

on a billboard in Times Square in New York by convincing the owners that UTP meant up the Pope.

However, Norade was also persistently accused of being involved in gun running for the IRA.

And in this episode, I'm joined by Jamie Goldrick, the producer behind a new documentary that explores

the history of Norade

and the role they played in The Troubles.
