Very seldom is there a cocktail that I treat as being location specific.

Of course I'm only willing to drink mint tulips with the Kentucky Derby.

Obviously Guinness is made for cool and cozy fall days and yes, transfusions are reserved

for hungover rounds of golf only.

There is one specific cocktail however that I only drink during the summertime in my hometown

of Harper Springs, Michigan.

It's strong, it's sugary, it's delicious.

I'm talking about darkened stormies.

A drink that's been praised by sailors, it's easy to concoct and it's a delightful way

to take down large batches of cocktails when you're trying to have a little fun.

Every year toward the end of July, my hometown hosts a sailboat race called Ugata Regatta.

Sailors from near and far collect on our waterfront for a few days of drinking, racing and

probably more drinking.

Patrons line up to get limited edition t-shirts outside of the boat shop and bars become

filled with unfamiliar but tanned faces that are ordering everything, their hearts desire.

Making our normal grocery store run before the big weekend, the sailor in us jumped out

a little bit as we looked down the aisle and saw the ingredients we'd need to make round

after round.

A bottle of Gosling's dark rum and a six pack of ginger beer.

Again, it's made by Goslings.

In reality, Gosling did something that I'm surprised hasn't become more commonplace
