I'm Gabriel Marcotti and it's a bit of a melancholy

week so I'm just going to talk about this at the very start. Last week we had the passing

of Suril Regis this week the passing of the word regis this week the passing of the word legend gets thrown around a lot

to me he certainly was one Jimmy Armfield for those you don't know he was a tremendous footballer he then became a broadcaster an

absolute class act and I had the privilege of working with him several times on

radio a real gentleman.

Although it's weird because the one story that's been repeated,

I don't know even know if it was apocryphal,

but he was such a nice man that when the really, namely nice guys get a little bit

sort of edgy and a little bit nasty, it resonates even more.

The story I think dates from the early 90s.

He was working for the BBC.

Howard Wilkinson, I believe would have been managing Leeds United at the time.

And he was being questioned in post-match press conference by the media.

And Wilkinson did what most of us in the media hate when former professionals do

He basically came out and he said he's like like stop asking these questions

What do you guys know about football? Huh? How many caps do you have and you and you?

And then from the back of the room you hear

Jimmy Arnfield say, well I've got 43 actually Howard.

How about you?
