My fact is that until the mid 2000s the best method for finding out how many pandas were

alive was to sift through their poo.

Well, it's very, very hard to know how many pandas there are.

So the best method in the early 2000s, which came up with the total number of 1500 and

96, which is very precise, was to go around looking for panda excrement sift through it
