Summary

When rapper and native Angeleno Nipsey Hussle was murdered on March 31, 2019, his death didn't just send shock waves throughout Los Angeles and the world of music. It was taken especially hard in the NBA community. Countless players shared thoughts and condolences before and after games, or via social media. The Lakers and Clippers as organizations offered tributes. Nipsey was more than just a musical genius to NBA athletes. He was an innovative philanthropist, businessman and truth teller who'd achieved iconic status at a young age in a very short amount of time. More than two years after his death, Nipsey's absence remains pronounced in basketball circles. To discuss why Nipsey had such a profound effect on the NBA and Los Angeles, Andy Kamenetzky welcomed Justin Tinsley, Senior Culture and Sports Writer at The Undefeated, who helped create "The King of Crenshaw," a multi-episode series for ESPN's 30 for 30 Podcasts. DeMar DeRozan, DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas are among the NBA voices reflecting on Nipsey's influence and resonance. Andy and Justin discuss topics ranging from the rapper's love of basketball, how growing up in Los Angeles shaped him, and the commonalities between Nipsey and Kobe Bryant. Host: Andy Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Andy and Justin discuss Nipsey's love of basketball (including a scouting report of him on the court!), and what made Nipsey's life so compelling. SEGMENT 2: Andy and Justin discuss what Nipsey mean to NBA players, and what Los Angeles meant to Nipsey. SEGMENT 3: Andy and Justin discuss the similarities Nipsey and Kobe share as Los Angeles icons, and what his musical influence might be generations from now. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
