We are here with Nikki Jabur the amazing author of three books you're on vegetable gardener

groundbreaking food gardens and veggie garden remix.

She has a radio show she has a website called savvy gardening she's all over the place

on the internet and off the internet and this week we've been talking about cold weather

growing techniques both in the structures that you can build in your garden as well as

the vegetables and varieties you can choose and what I thought Nikki would make a lot

of sense was giving everyone a little context on the scale and scope of your garden kind

of how it came to be and the ways that you're growing so that we can all understand kind

of why you've carved out this little niche for yourself in the gardening world.

Yeah for sure Kevin I mean my garden has changed a lot over the years you know whether

I've moved I've been in this house now for about 18 years so I've had several gardens

which have gone under gone different transformations over time but my current garden I've put

in in the spring of 2015 so we're going to be going on five years and at that before

that I had you know about two thousand square feet of growing space with three formed

raised beds and you know it served me well you know it was great for my many hoop tunnels

for fall and winter harvesting but you know I was ready for an upgrade and so I invested

in 20 raised beds so we have I use local untreated hemlock to fill them they're 16 inches

tall and either 4x8 or 4x10 depending on where you are in the garden I did at one point

post my garden design on my savvy gardening websites because everybody wanted to kind

of get the above view of it so it's arranged very symmetrically with space between the

beds I do have room for tunnels so there's bean tunnels and board tunnels and two
