For 11 years now, Debbie Millman has been talking with designers and other creative types

about what they do, how they got to be who they are and what they're

thinking about. On this podcast, Debbie Milman talks with composer Nico Mule, about his music and

about the musicians who interpret it.

I always feel like they appreciate something that's

detailed on the page to indicate that I know what I'm talking about,

but with room for them to continue the conversation when I'm dead.

We're listening to music written by Nico Mule, who

composes chamber music, orchestra music, operas, music for ballet, film music, you name it. If we had to sample from all the types of music he's written and he's only 34, we'd be here for quite some time.

Niko Mule is a rare bird among contemporary classical composers.

He's hip, and he has fans under the age of 30. Maybe this has something to do with his

collaborations with Bjork, Grizzly Bear, and Ira and Philip Glass and his efforts to

reach beyond the classical music tradition.

He joins me now to talk about his music and his life.
