My guest today is Nick McDonald's, one of the most accomplished young, young-ish, but still young people I've ever come across. I first

heard of Nick when he wrote his first novel 12 at 17 years old. Did it come out when you were 17? He wrote it when you were 17.

He came out when I was 18. Right. Slacker. And he wrote a novel that I think only gets more

more relevant, more resonant now, and a novel that I love and I reached out to him

to tell him this years ago and it's a book called An Expensive Education and he wrote

that at 25 about his experiences at Harvard and about the intelligence community and he has a

staggering new book out called The Bodies in person that's not a novel that is a non-fiction account of what he saw and learned going around the world to forward areas in the endless conflict

between the United States and much of the rest of the world

in primarily Muslim countries and it's a book that

aims to show us the cost of these conflicts by depicting the lives of the people on the

ground who were killed and the people trying to find or rescue or deal with them and Nick McDonald

thanks for being here. Thank you Brian for having me. Yeah man it's a total

pleasure and also I want to say Nick is one of only two people David Levine and I have ever written a script with.

And we wrote a pilot together, the three of us, which was a great experience, although we never really took it out to the town yet for a variety of reasons.

I think one day I look forward to doing that.
