Can I just, before you go on to other things, say about Sir Alan Bates, I've had the pleasure of listening to him up close and he is truly one of the most modest, calm, reasonable people

I've ever had the pleasure to meet. If he says something's wrong,

it is wrong because he doesn't rant, he doesn't get carried away, he's just so incredibly

measured and pleasant. All the attention has done nothing to his ego, his personality. It's just

natural. Well, well, well said, Lord Hayward, and as I say, if nothing else,

if I was the post office or I was the authorities,

I wouldn't be mixing with Alan Bates.

And it seems like they're treating him badly.
