The US Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control,

sanctioned Horatio Manuel Cartez, Jara Cartez,

the former president of Paraguay,

and Hugo Alteberto Velazquez Moreno,

the current vice president for their involvement

in the rampant corruption that undermines democratic institutions

in Paraguay, also designated several entities for sanctions

being under-controlled by former president Cartez.
