attacked indigenous people reclaiming land in Brazil's farming state of

Matogroso de Sol, injuring 11, the Minister of Indigenous Affairs said five of the 10 people injured

were taken to hospital to be treated for wounds of gunshots, rubber bullets, as a result of the first attack in

Doradina District.

Well, John, my degrees of the soul is a very important

in agricultural state. A lot of Brazilian soybean and meat production, for example,

come from there.

It's in the center west of the country actually

it's not technically the Amazon it's south of the Amazon it's another ecosystem

more similar to the African savannas and so it borders with Paraguay and Bolivia

also a land very plagued by transnational crime, drug trafficking as well. But it's, I mean, land problems in Brazil are huge and the

more the agriculture frontier expands and is so profitable it creates more

conflicts of that sort that's very unfortunate. The repression of that sort of violence is in the hands of the state governments,

not in the hands of the federal government.
