And Joseph Umar, the executive director of Secure Free Society. We turn to the trouble on the west coast of South America.

And the concern here is in particular Ecuador.

President Lasso, for some weeks, has been under scrutiny by his own legislature for what is said to be corruption.

It's not very much, it's not very specific in these general Reuters headlines.

However, the corruption now has reached a level where apparently the legislature is moving in some graft evidence declaration for impeachment.

At the same time, we have this headline from the Capitol, Keto, Ecuador has authorized the carrying in use of guns by civilians.

President Lasso said in a televised broadcast, citing rising crime and insecurity.

Lasso, a conservative former banker, has been fighting to tackle rising crime and violence in the streets, rights, Reuters, and in prisons, which were hundreds of inmates have been killed, which the government blames on drug trafficking gangs.

Joseph, there are enough competing bad news themes here. I will unpack them as best I can.

First, the Congress and these lawmakers who want to indict or remove or impeach or in some way slow Lasso's government.

Are they a sizable part of the constituency or is this the opposition campaigning in other ways?

It certainly is part of the opposition that is looking to basically remove Guillermo Lasso from the presidency.

But there are some coalitions and other smaller parties that have joined in to the opposition because the narrative around Guillermo Lasso and his popularity is pretty much low in the country.

People ratings are low so they are joining in on this effort. But behind all this, and this is the most important point I think for the listeners, behind all this is a central figure.

He is the former president of Ecuador. He is a prominent member of this Bolivarian threat network that permeates throughout the region, tied to Maduro, tied to Maralas Oblivia, Christina Kirchner, Argentina, tied to the most corrupt actors in the history of Latin America, tied to Lula de Silva in Brazil.
