Evan Ellis of the U.S. Army War College. We're going to the Andean chain where there's news

in Peru in Bolivia and in Ecuador. I begin with Peru because there is a president there.

There's not a pending election. President Belarte. However, there's been friction between

the president and protesters since the removal of Pedro Castillo. He's now detained for his

unacceptable acts towards Congress when he was president. Now there looks to be more friction

between President Belarte, who was vice president and succeeded to the post, and her legislature.

Professor, this is Dina Belarte expressing her will to bring peace to the country that is not

known peace since Castillo became president. But is she taking on the same groups or power centers

in Lima that Castillo failed to move? Well, John, the irony of a Belarte's position that we've

talked about in various occasions in the program after over the past couple of months is that she

simultaneously seems to have moved past the immediate crisis to her governance. And at the same

time, she is hugely unpopular and in Peruvians continue to want change. So on the one hand,
