Summary

Happy 2023 to the AFM+MH family! We missed you all so much and could hardly wait to be back with you. It is our hope that today's show serves as a refreshing encouragement and reminder that regardless of where you are on your New Year's resolution journey, you can find rest, peace, and assurance in Christ Jesus as your foundation for all things. While healthy lifestyle changes are good and noble pursuits, we must remind ourselves that our identity as followers of Jesus is found in knowing Him in relationship, and not in how many books we read or the calories we burn. God redeems us THEN makes us righteous, and then enables us to walk in the good works he has prepared for us. Maybe this is the year to actually stop striving for change by your own willpower and simply surrender to the Holy Spirit to work in and through you for His purposes. May He make that known to you this year.

Some encouragement, some prayer. We're going to have a whole mix of things. So we're really excited

for the new year. But honey, kind of going back to what you were saying. I think it's super important

1:18.8

to remember those things because every see I am so guilty of this. I love a good like little

1:23.8

checklist of things I need to do different. I love like setting new different goals. But one

1:29.8

thing that we really do need to be better at is reminding ourselves of any real change that we

1:35.2

need to be making. We need to remember that first our identity isn't Christ. It's not going to be

1:40.6

on how many books of the Bible you read this year on how many pages you can get done in today.

1:44.9

On how many calories you burn at the gym or don't burn at the gym. How many

your job position within your job that you have. There are so many things that I feel like

the whole New Year's resolution thing gets really tied into our identity.

2:01.5

Like selfish ambition, right? Yes. And there's not necessarily bad things, right? It's not

2:06.0

bad to want to get in better physical health or read the Bible. Those are actually good pursuits.

The problem is when those start to become idolized and then when we miss the mark,
