Good morning. I'm Kate Baldwin. It is Friday, May 1st. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

0:10.0

Number one, the surveillance video. There is still more new video coming out of the lead-up to the attempted attack on the White House Correspondence dinner.

0:18.0

Federal prosecutors say this video shows Cole Thomas Allen

0:22.1

casing the hotel the night before the attack. They say the video shows him walking through

0:27.0

corridors, even checking out the hotel gym Friday night, and the hall also that would lead

0:33.3

to the dinner's security checkpoint. Then the video cuts to the scene that very next night when Alan storms through that checkpoint.

0:41.3

The US Attorney for DC says this video shows Alan shoot a secret service officer, though it is not clear when that moment occurs.

0:48.3

1:07.7

And what we do know is that the Secret Service officer fired his weapon five times.

1:12.6

The Secret Service agent did not shoot himself.

1:16.6

Then there's also the selfie that prosecutors revealed.

1:20.6

Alan in his hotel room with several weapons on him.

1:24.6

They were planning the prosecutors to release all of this in court

1:28.1

yesterday to argue Alan needs to stay in custody as he awaits trial, but then Alan

1:31.8

agreed to remain in custody. So the judge said it would be a waste of time to

1:35.3

present the evidence, though prosecutors decided to release it anyway. Number two,

1:39.5

the Surgeon General. President Trump is testing the theory now that third times the charm when it comes to a surgeon general.

1:46.8

First, he nominated former Fox News medical contributor Dr. Jeanette Neshwatt, then Dr. Casey Means, a wellness influencer who faced up questions from lawmakers about her views on vaccines.

1:59.1

And the president now just pulled her nomination,

2:01.6

and he's nominated the third, Dr. Nicole Sapphire, a radiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer

2:07.6

Center specializing in breast cancer. Sapphire has mixed views on vaccines. I guess you could describe it that way.
