Let's start with a big update in the war with Iran.

Sources familiar with the negotiation process tell CNN that Iran has sent a new peace proposal for negotiations with the U.S. to Pakistani mediators.

CNN International Diplomatic Editor Nick Robertson is in Islamabad, Pakistan. Nick,

what do we know here? David, this latest proposal from Iran came in at the 11th hour. The expectation

was the deadline was Friday, the possibility of returning to war, all eyes now on President Trump

to see what he has to say. Pakistani mediators seem encouraged,

but an Iranian official had earlier said there would need to be simultaneous suspensions

of both sides, blockade of the Strait of Hamoos. Not clear what other, if any, conditionality the Iranians are putting on the continuation

of talks. This potentially gets over the possibility of an immediate return to war.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S., there is a lot of disagreement whether the legal deadline for use of military force without congressional authorization has passed.

A 1973 law requires approval from Congress for military action longer than 60 days, and the war began on February 28th.

But the administration claims, because a temporary ceasefire started in April, those hostilities have been terminated, and it's a moot point.
