podcast. I'm your host John Delinn. It is August 23rd, 2024. This is a special

edition breaking news Mormon Story podcast.

A news story has hit the Mormon News World and I'll just share a couple of the headlines.

One source is NBC News, so this is a national news story and the title the headline is Mormon Church issues new restrictions

on transgender members the new policies include a measure to annotate trans

members records grouping them with members who have

committed sexual violence or child abuse you know so you could basically say a headline is

you know Mormon Church relegates transgender members to the status of

child abusers. I don't know if that's too harsh of a of a headline or a

sub headline but that's what occurs to me.

The Salt Lake Tribune has also, you know, covered this along with other news outlets.

The headline for the Salt Lake Tribune is

new LDS Church policies relegate trans members to second-class status

Scholars warn and I'm sure we can come up with all sorts of different headlines.

But it's very disturbing.

This reminds me of 2015 when the Mormon Church issued its exclusion policy basically categorizing same-sex

married Mormons as worse than rapist, child abusers, pedophiles, etc.

Of course, they undid that policy four years after they implemented it,

after it was called Doctrine,

and that has caused tens, if not hundreds of thousands of Mormons

to leave the church understandably so and this policy feels very similar and I'm just so grateful to have back on Mormon stories
