0:52.0	My name is Padre Gautuma and for a long time I've been interested in how a poem can be a teacher.
0:52.8	At the end of last year, we asked folks who read the Poetry and Dawn Substack
0:56.9	what questions they had about poetry.
0:59.0	And one of the areas that came up was about poems that have something to say about conflict.
1:04.0	So here we have it.
1:05.0	In response to your questions, a little poetry and bound mini series,
1:09.0	poems as teachers, we're calling it.
1:10.0	This time we're looking at conflict and the human condition.
1:14.0	I used to work in conflict resolution and even in those sessions I'd often bring in a poem for all of us to look at
1:24.3	to try to understand the dynamics of the human condition and to allow the poem to
1:28.7	speak to us about this most powerful of experiences which is division and conflict.
1:34.0	Obviously there's fruitful conflict where you and I disagree with each other but our disagreement
1:38.5	even if it's difficult can help build something and there's destructive conflict too, war.
1:44.2	And so we have this short series for you, this episode and six more.
