Our top stories. The Biden administration announced it would introduce new tariffs on

imports from China. There will apply to $18 billion worth of Chinese products,

including electric vehicles, solar equipment and batteries.

The tariff rate on EVs will quadruple to 100% and in some cases taxes on

imports of steel and aluminium will be tripled months before the presidential

election.

Leo Brainard, the White House National Economic Advisor,

said that the move intends to ensure that a flood of unfair underpriced Chinese goods

doesn't threaten American jobs.

Qatar's Prime Minister said that ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which Egypt

in Qatar are mediating, were at almost a stalemate.

Israeli tanks progressed further into Eastern Raifra on Tuesday.

Almost 450,000 Palestinians have fled the city in a week, according to a UN agency.

Meanwhile the UN's top court said that it would hold hearings this week on South Africa's

request for Israel to halt activity in Raffer.
