Hello and welcome to another edition of the Byron York Show, the No Chit Chat podcast.

We'd like to get right into it and what we're going to get into today is the nervousness,

the anxiety that we're seeing among Democrats these days.

There was a little scene at the Democratic, the House Democrats annual retreat a few

days ago in Philadelphia.

Now this is something they do every year, Republicans do the same thing, not always in Philadelphia,

but do the same thing and the purpose is to get all the House members together, the party

members discuss policy initiatives for the coming months.

And in the case of Democrats right now, most of all to come up with a message for the

midterm elections that they are widely expected to lose.

So with all these negative expectations and we'll discuss those later, the party's leader

of course, Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so determined to put on a brave face that she banned

the word retreat from the retreat, even though that is what the retreat has been called

for many years.

And even though Republicans also go on a regular retreat, the word went out from the top,

from the speaker to Democrats do not under any circumstances use the R word.

So Pelosi had a news conference on Friday and she made sure to call the event everybody

was at an issues conference.

And then she added, quote, cross off the word retreat, we do not retreat.

So that's pretty clear.

Later a reporter made the mistake of beginning his question, he respectfully asked his question,

quote, Madame Speaker, you talked a little bit about the challenges of holding an issues
