Hello everyone and welcome to Slash Film Weekly. It's Wednesday, May 6th, 2026 on today's episode of the show. We're going to be talking about the latest film and TV news. And then I'll be joined by a bunch of people to talk about Hocom. We'll present an interview with that movie's editor. And we'll talk about Daredevil Born Again, season two, and present an interview with the show's director of photography. And I'll save our longest conversation for last as we discuss the biggest movie of this week, The Devil Wears Prada 2. My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor

0:26.2

at slashfilm.com. So let's just jump into the news segment here. The Academy has revealed some

0:31.5

rule changes for upcoming Oscars ceremonies. One that feels like a no-brainer is that only

0:36.4

performances that are, quote, demonstrably

0:38.6

performed by humans, end quote, will be eligible for acting categories and only human written

0:45.0

screenplays are eligible for writing Oscars. Actors can now be nominated multiple times in the same

0:50.9

category in the same year, similar to how Steven Soderberg was nominated for

0:54.8

Best Director for Aaron Brockovich and Traffic like 25 years ago. And this one's kind of cool.

0:59.9

In the international feature category, movies will continue to be submitted by their country, as

1:05.2

usual, but movies from that country that did not get submitted now have the opportunity for

1:10.5

eligibility if they

1:11.3

win a qualifying award at one of the major international film festivals.

1:15.7

So, for example, if this rule was in place a few years ago, Portrait of a Lady on

1:19.1

Fire did not get nominated for an Oscar because France chose the 2019 version of Le Miserables

1:24.5

as its entry.

1:25.7

But if the best screenplay award that Portrait won at Cannes

1:29.4

that year counts as a qualifying award, then it could have gotten a nomination that way.

1:34.2

So that's kind of cool. I'm not sure exactly what the rules are and what they say about

1:38.0

what does and doesn't count as a qualifying award, but I'm sure we'll find out in the coming

1:42.5

weeks for like hardcore Oscar nerds who care about that stuff. I'm sure we'll find out in the coming weeks for like hardcore Oscar nerds who care

1:45.0

about that stuff.

1:45.8

I'm sure you can find more details about that on the Academy's website or something in the coming
