My name is Mark Lintonmeyer.

My guest for episode 223 is Dale Krover, best known as the drummer from the Melvins,

which was perhaps the parent band of Nirvana.

Dale even played briefly with Nirvana in the early days.

You're right now hearing Spread Eagle Beagle, the final track from the Melvins, Houdini, 1993.

Dale has played on all 28 albums by the Melvins.

Most songs are written by the guitarist and lead singer Buzz Osborne, but they also do a lot

of group writing, and in 1995 they each released a solo EP.

Around that same time, 1994, Dale started Altamont, which he was the lead guitarist and lead

singer. They released four albums

in parallel with Melvin's through 2005. In the past eight years or so, Dale has started

recording on his own some more. He's just released his third full solo album, Glossolalia,

and we're going to be talking about I Quit from that record, then Bad Move from his 2017 solo

album, The Fickle Finger of Fate, and then a Melvin's tune that Dale wrote the basis of

The Bit from their 1996 album Stagg. And for both that song and Bad Move, there was a new

recording made in 2021 by Mekans for an all-acoustic album called Five-Legged Dog.

So we'll hear little clips of those alternate interpretations of those two songs.

Finally, we're going to hear a tune from the last Altamont album, The Monkey's Uncle, 2005.

The song is called El Stupido.
