Good art, good movies, good books have always been about more than just the surface,

and in horror more than just the boo.

They have ideas and the ideas look into the dark recesses of who we are.

They search for common and uncommon fears.

One of the reasons I'm so drawn to the genre is that it is bold, that it breaks taboos,

it seeks what is beneath the surface.

Confronting fears in a safe place might be a simple rationalization, but for some it's

important.

I love a simple scary story as much as anyone, and I've delighted in wet splattery scenes

in movies just for the sheer audaciousness of them,

the intent to offend raising the middle finger to the standard world order.
