I've said that I would offer my recommendations from time to time, and there's no time like the present to offer up some of the movies that have given me the most pleasure over the last few months or so.

They come from around the world, there are no consistent themes here, just movies that have moved me in our dark little corner of horror cinema.

Of course, hosts really captured the world's zeitgeist, a zoom-set pandemic thriller that couldn't exist without the planet's horrible coronavirus infection.

Shutter has really been on a role here, they've also brought us La Yarona, a Spanish language film from Guatemala that combines social commentary with genuine chills and terror, all set in an all-too-real world that is brushed with dark and magic.

Who lose bad hair and Netflix's his house come to their terrors through the black experience from completely opposite directions, the former in truly inspired and barbed satire, and the other in a truly empathetic horror drama about being displaced and disregarded until.

Amulet and relic induce fright in seemingly quiet yet increasingly personal ways.

Alone and hunted are both powerful chased through the woods exercises.

The lodge impressed me with its chilly observance of a splintered family dynamic in a lodge in a snowstorm.

Color out of space is HP Lovecraft at its wildest and weirdest and most vividly insane, with, of course, a raging Nicholas Cage as the cherry on the top.

Elijah Wood has a great performance at the center of Come to Daddy, which ping pongs from its oddball humor to foe on blasts of horror.

I like swallow for its genuine originality and commitment to playing it real, and Sputnik also gets major points for its originality.

This isn't by any means a best of list of the year's movies, but just a handful that impressed me and gave me the joy of a genre with lots and lots of creative diversity to offer.
