We start this week once again with the government shutdown, which is now entering day 34.

President Donald Trump continues to put pressure on Republicans with his plan to end the shutdown

by eliminating the Senate filibuster and the 60-vote threshold required

for legislation, as he reiterated the idea in a 60-minute interview.

The Republicans have to get tougher. If we end the filibuster, we can do exactly what we want.

We're not going to lose power.

It could be a crucial week for negotiations, as the effect of the shutdown really start to bite.

A CNN analysis of FAA operations plans shows this past weekend has been the worst for air traffic

control staffing shortages so far. Meanwhile, two federal judges have said the Trump administration

is required to use emergency funds to provide at least partial food stamp benefits to tens

of millions of Americans this month, although it remains to be seen how this will work.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries yesterday criticized how Republicans have politicized

these funds.

It's very unfortunate that Donald Trump and Republicans have decided to weaponize hunger.

New polling shows Trump's approval rating is underwater.

A new poll from ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos shows almost six in ten Americans

disapprove of the job he's currently doing, with just 41% approving.

Trump's approval ratings are deeply negative on the economy, with only 37% approving,

while more people see themselves as worse off rather than better off financially,

since he became president.

The Democrats, however, were also received negatively, with 68% seeing the Democratic Party as out of touch
