Summary

The Lakers, fresh off their comeback win over New York Saturday night at the crypt, managed to sneak in a practice Monday afternoon in El Segundo. LeBron James, who played 40 minutes in first game back in the lineup after sitting out with knee swelling, took it easy. But he says he thinks he's no worse for wear and hopes to play Tuesday night. Carmelo Anthony won't play Tuesday, but might be back as soon as Wednesday night vs. Portland, so at the least his hamstring injury isn't seen (currently at least) as that serious. So that's all good news. Or about as good as news gets these days for the Lakers, when it comes to player health. Meanwhile, LeBron was asked about his, um, "partnership" with General Manager Rob Pelinka, and whether or not he believes the team needs to make a move before the deadline. No surprise, he punted on the question - yes, you always try to get better, but he also always expects to ride with the dudes he has - but it raises an interesting one: How aggressively should the Lakers move this week to try and save this season? Can it be saved with a realistic deal for good-but-not-great players? Does it matter that the Clippers have picked up Robert Covington and Norman Powell, strengthening a roster that hopes to get Paul George back? Finally, what does it mean that Russell Westbrook has now been benched twice, when it comes to the way Frank Vogel uses him down the stretch? Should more time on the pine be expected, if Westbrook isn't performing up to snuff from night to night? His teammates say they're supporting him, trying to keep his confidence up. Can Russ function as a more timid version of himself? And Trevor Ariza... is suddenly good again! And it matters! HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: LeBron says he feels good, or at least good enough, following Saturday's win. Carmelo Anthony is still on the shelf, but should be back soon. SEGMENT 2: How aggressive should Pelinka be at the deadline? Can the Lakers be saved by a trade? How good a player/players do they need to get in return? SEGMENT 3: There's now a precedent for Frank Vogel to pull Westbrook in key moments. Will he keep doing it going forward? And Trevor Ariza is finally looking like the important piece Vogel promised all year. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Hey everyone. Welcome to locked on Lakers for Tuesday Brian Kiminetski and a Kiminetski the player LeBron James made it through practice on Monday without seeming to have any set facts.

0:39.3

But what about GM LeBron James? How much work does he think this roster needs? He talked about that on Monday and we'll talk about it next on locked on Lakers.

1:35.3

We will get to LeBron James GM LeBron James of course Andy LeBron James is not the GM of the Los Angeles Lakers certainly not this season. No only when things go well.

1:47.9

Yes, we will see there's one of my favorite things about LeBron. I remember you and I debated this on a recent show. The idea that LeBron shies away from the idea that he's actively involved with front office moves. He doesn't shy away from it if it's working out great. Yes, I should have been more specific.

2:08.9

We'll talk about that in a second because LeBron was asked about the state of the team how they look because it is deadline week the deadline is Thursday I believe noon Pacific time. You got to have all your trades done your ducks in a row.

2:21.9

Make sure you're paying by the way attention to the locked on NBA network trade show that's going to be going on that. Yes, absolutely.

2:29.9

So we'll get to that in a second because LeBron was asked directly about it. But first is LeBron on the floor because he played 39 minutes I believe it was against the 40 we're rounding up against the nicks on Saturday.

2:47.9

And this was his first game back after the knee injury everybody agreed that was probably more than anyone wanted. And on Monday after practice LeBron said that he doesn't believe he had me setbacks he thinks he's okay and seemed Andy to indicate that he expects to play Tuesday night against Milwaukee in a marquee nationally televised game.

3:09.9

Yeah, first of all those are often the type of games that get LeBron to show up in the first place. But you know if there's any type of doubts I think the tie goes to how many people will get to watch him.

3:19.9

But it sounded to me like LeBron was fairly confident he would be able to play I think this has been a season that I mean really good argue LeBron's unfortunately the majority of his time with the Lakers he's learned that there are no promises when it comes to health his own or teammates.

3:36.9

He talked about how actually he's never been part of a season where injuries have played such a toll but you know he acknowledged there's been a lot going on this year that's made it very difficult for the team to assess where they are and you know exactly how to do the necessary work but I if nothing else feel confident LeBron's going to be out there today.

3:59.9

Yeah and if he doesn't play you know against the box there's certainly a reasonable chance he comes back and plays Wednesday against Portland in a game again these the Portland game as we've noted as these games come up the Portland game is more important than a Milwaukee game the Milwaukee game is higher profile it would certainly be a major confidence booster for the Lakers to win especially we know the box put up I think 140 points on the Clippers.

4:28.9

Sunday night I mean they they just port it on 130 140 points something like that and given the way the Lakers have struggled on defense I would put past them to do it again.

4:40.9

So you know it would mean a lot for the Lakers to play a good game on Tuesday and even to win that but Wednesday is the one that really matters because Portland sucks and you can't give away games against bad teams at this point in the season.

4:54.9

Other housekeeping notes Carmelo Anthony is not going to play Tuesday night against Milwaukee Frank Vogel ruled him out of this one did not necessarily though rule him out of Wednesday's game I don't know if he'll play or not but the fact that he isn't being ruled out is a good sign that over the long term this is probably not a really serious injury.
