Unfictional is KCRW's laboratory for independent radio producers, writers, and performers.

And today on the program, three tales from independent producers Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister,

creators of the song plus story.

They weave a song through their radio story

specifically written for the piece

by musicians who become part of the process.

All three of the stories on today's program

are told in words and song.

Beginning with the premiere of a new song plus story

about a modern day gold rush going on in Faulkner County, Arkansas.

More than 3,000 wells have been dug in the area using the controversial technique called

hydrofracturing, but just when a lot of people started to make money in the nearby town of Greenbrier,

residents had to deal with a different kind of boom.

A swarm of hundreds of small earthquakes started last fall.

There's only been minor damage, but the earthquakes

have shaken up people's state of mind. What's going on under the feet of the people in Arkansas? Helping

to tell the tale is musician Bonnie Prince Billy, also known as Will Olden.

On KCRW's Unfictional, it's the natural state. The original ones that we heard here were like thunderclaps, boom, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
