This is CBS Eye on the World with John Batchler. Here's John Batchler.

The NATO-Summited Vilnius now concluded gathering of vehicles. What is to be done? We begin

0:18.9

with the addition. Finland is in NATO. It's now 31 strong. Finland has an 830 mile border

0:28.1

with the Russian Federation. What does that mean for NATO and for Russia? I welcome Cliff May,

0:35.1

writing most recently, he is the president and founder of the Foundation for the Defense

0:39.9

of Democracy, about Finland in 20th century and 21st century history. Cliff, a very good

0:47.6

evening to you. What does Finland's addition mean for NATO and for Russia? Good evening.

0:53.8

Well, it strengthens NATO enormously and it is exactly the kind of thing that Putin

1:45.2

is headquartered, will literally be surrounded by NATO nations, because cleaning ground, as

1:49.8

you know, is something I 400 miles from Russia, proper. You have to go through Belarus and

1:55.9

Lithuania. This is a land area that was taken for the Germans in 1945, the other World

2:02.2

War II was Kodigsberg, which part of Prussia at one point. One thing that I want to add

2:07.6

that I get into in the peace is probably the least well-remembered war of the 20th century,

2:14.6

in 1939, after Stalin and Hitler made their non-aggression pact. They also, as part of that,

2:22.1

kind of divided up the lands between them, everyone remembers Poland, but also Stalin wanted
