uh... All right, welcome and good afternoon. I am Marnay Cook with Elizabeth Cook Lynn, a native writer in scholar and professor.

Also my mother and she's written many many books, 14 books and one of those books is called anti-Indianism in modern America and it is

one of ten books that has been chosen to be featured in the Oak Lake Writers Society's

hashtag Native Read's campaign.

And so this is a series of podcast episodes

in conjunction with the First Nations Development Institute's

hashtag Native Reeds campaign.

And the podcast series is a supplemental learning tool

that can be paired with lesson plans and curricula on the Ochetti Shocawi literary traditions.

And so we'll talk more about some of those books momentarily, which are the suggested reads for the year so you can still pick up some of those

for the fall as well. All right I guess first we should talk about the Oak Lake

Writers Society and your involvement in the society and who are they?

What do they do? What is the purpose?

This is something that was begun at South Dakota State and it was begun by an English

professor named Woodard. And my involvement with it, I was still teaching at Eastern, and my involvement

with it was just as a mentor. And so I have mentored this group of South Dakota
