A couple days ago, I watched a story on Al Jazeera English about how the Israeli military is using small drones mounted with machine guns to kill civilians in Gaza.

These drones are three to five feet wide with four or more propellers. They're called

0:23.2

quadcopters. They move like hummingbirds or bumblebees hovering and darting. They can go inside

0:30.2

buildings and tunnels or chase someone down the street. Besides guns, they carry cameras, loudspeakers,

0:41.3

and bombs. The Al Jazeera story claimed the Israelis are busy building new prototypes and testing them on the trapped civilians in Gaza. I did a search

0:48.7

under Israeli quadcopters and saw that NPR did a story on November 20th about a British doctor speaking in the

0:56.3

House of Commons about operating on Palestinian children who'd been shot by quadcopters in

Development. All the members ask a question, so it's a long interview,

1:29.9

over 40 minutes, and it's not easy to listen to. I had to take breaks and come back to it. Some

1:37.3

parts are rather horrifying. It begins with an introduction by committee chairman, Sarah Champion.

1:45.4

I would like to start this, the very first session of the International Development Select

1:49.8

Committee. It is a new committee that we've got here for this new Parliament. And it is my

1:55.0

great honour that our very first witness is Professor Nazim Mahmud, who is a professor of

2:00.7

transplant surgery. But, Nazan,

2:04.0

you're here in front of us because you have recently returned from Gaza and doing some work

2:10.6

in the hospitals over there. We really appreciate you coming and speaking to us today. It's very

2:17.3

difficult to get first-hand testimony,
