Bob, Lucy, how's she doing?

0:41.0

Good. Lucy is a probe that's going to visit about eight asteroids, two in the main asteroid belt,

0:48.0

and then the rest in the Trojan asteroids that orbit in Jupiter's orbit, 60 degrees in front and behind Jupiter.

0:56.0

It's going to visit eight different asteroids. Well, it's operating pretty well,

1:00.0

and this two weeks ago they performed a mid-course correction to prepare for their first asteroid fly-by.

1:09.0

They're going to fly by a small half-mile wide asteroid that's located in the main asteroid belt.

1:15.0

It's called Pinkin Nest. And we don't have a good close-up picture of such an asteroid.

They're going to get the first. It'll arrive in November. They did a mid-course correction to make it possible

so it could get within 265 miles of this asteroid.

1:30.0

And so everything is working good, John. Let's keep up fingers crossed.

1:34.0

The coming of November will get the first really good close-up image of a main belt asteroid.

1:40.0

We've never really gotten one from the ground and it's not particularly good.

1:43.0

All the other asteroid missions that have flown have generally gone to near-earth asteroids, not the main belt.

1:48.0

So this is going to be the first good image of a main belt asteroid.

1:51.0

Do I remember correctly that Lucy had an anomaly with the solar array and that they couldn't deploy it completely?

1:57.0

But from what your report just said, everything's going according to plan.

2:02.0

I think that array, the one of the two fan-like arrays is deployed about 98%.
