Summary

What do you do when you have a sinus infection? It's painful, it's tough to breathe, and frankly, it can feel a little scary. Many people would quickly ask for an antibiotic for this situation. This isn't wrong, but it is possible to treat sinusitis herbally in many cases.Β

Β

As I discussed in a previous episdoe, I had a sinus infection that wasn't responding to systemic herbal treatment. I opted to use nasal irrigation with a neti pot, but instead of using the typical saline solution, I added specific herbs. I experienced a swift turnaround in my symptoms, cleared the infection within a few days, and was able to avoid the round of antibiotics my naturopath suggested.

Β

The key to treating sinusitis has everything to do with the herbs you choose, and it has everything to do with delivering those herbs topically to the tissues that need them.Β

Here's what you'll learn in this episode:

  • The five herbs I used to treat sinusitis and why I chose them

  • Why whole herbs are often more effective than isolated constituents

  • The conundrum of antimicrobials: making sense of the terms antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal

  • How different classes of constituents work synergistically against inflammation and infection

  • Practical methods for using these herbs in neti pots and nasal sprays

  • Ecological and energetic perspectives on sinus infections (heat, dampness, atony, etc.)

  • Substitutions for harder-to-procure, expensive, and at-risk herbs

Hey there, everybody, Sagea Popham here, founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism and

0:15.7

Natura Sophia Spajirix. And welcome back to the plant path.

0:21.5

In this video, I'm going to be doing a little bit of a continuation from a previous

0:27.7

video I did back talking about the magic of the herbal netty pot and talking about sinusitis and topical treatment of the

0:43.9

sinuses by putting herbs in the old netty pot and irrigating that way. But, you know, I went so long

0:51.5

in that in that video talking about my story.

0:55.9

If you haven't watched it, check it out.

0:57.3

But it went so long.

0:58.7

I didn't really have much time to get into my five remedies.

1:03.1

So I'm going to do it in a separate video here.

1:05.5

So here we are, as I can share with you, my top five herbs.

1:10.4

To address rhinocinytis or just sinusitis

1:15.3

for a little bit more information on that. I really encourage you to check out the magic of

1:21.7

the nitty pot and talking about sinusitis over there. It's also a little bit of an extension of my discussion

1:28.5

of topical herbs. So be sure to check that one out as well as we're redefining topical herbs.

1:35.1

Not necessarily redefining it, but just clarifying that topical doesn't mean putting it on your

1:41.0

skin. It means the herb touching the tissue. And that's what we're

1:44.7

talking about with irrigating your sinuses with an herbal netty pot. So what herbs did I use

1:51.7

when I was addressing my own sinus infection, which was progressively getting more and more

1:59.8

painful every day. I thought I just had a cold

2:02.3

and had a stuffy nose and thought it was just kind of an annoying thing. And my ND goes,

2:09.9

eh, I don't think so. You know, you should probably think about treating that. So I did. And here's what
