0:23.0	I am calling today to ask your advice and wisdom. My husband has struggled with alcohol more recently.
0:34.0	I'd say in the last 10 years. In January, he came to the realization that his problem was untenable and I'm very proud of him for reaching out and getting help.
0:49.0	He is active and alcoholics anonymous and I'm very proud of him and I'm very, very grateful.
0:56.0	My question or what I struggle with is trying to be supportive of him and be the best wife that I can't stop.
1:07.0	I want to be super likely to be supportive and the best wife. Cut that crap out.
1:14.0	You know sweetheart you married to him. This is your commitment. If you want to press the eject button you can.
1:23.0	You're already supportive. You tell him you're proud of him. You tell him you're grateful that you will no longer live with an alcoholic.
1:31.0	Encouragement, respect, empathy. That's all 99.9% of it is up to him. Not you.
1:40.0	Yes. I agree.
1:47.0	I don't trust him. I can't help you with that. I can't help you with that. There's no struggling about him. You'd be an idiot to trust a drunk.
2:02.0	However you're committed and you're going to stay and see what happens. Don't think support means you're going to find a way to be somewhat more in charge or in control.
2:12.0	You're not. It's all up to him. All of it. But you spent a lot of years of your life with a drunk.
2:19.0	So don't start out now that he's a member of AA telling me now you don't trust him. The hell is that about?
2:27.0	He's finally done something about it. And now you don't trust him. Aren't you a little late with the mistrust?
2:34.0	No, I've not trusted him for a long time.
2:38.0	Well, nothing's going to end here. This is the life you picked.
2:44.0	Uh-huh. So how?
2:47.0	So to answer your question, empathy, respect, encouragement. Tell him you're proud of him and you're grateful he's not a drunk anymore.
2:55.0	Don't start telling him that I don't trust you because that undermines the relationship.
