Summary

The secret is out… Matt Willis and his wife, Emma, are currently on a 3-week long social media break. They’re doing this alongside a group of year 8 students, whose experiment will be the star of an upcoming Channel 4 documentary.
But what does Matt really think of all of this?
Before the experiment, we caught up with Matt to ask his honest opinion on social media. Is it a good thing? Bad thing? What’s Matt’s personal experience with it? And how can we start to nurture a healthier relationship with social media?
Let’s see how Matt’s opinions change over the course of the experiment. Stay tuned as we find out more in 3 weeks!
We hope you enjoy the episode, and if you’d like to share your own thoughts on social, please leave a comment or review!

Hello everyone and welcome back to On the Mend with me Matt Willis.

0:11.5

Today is a solo episode and it's going to be a difficult one because it's hard for me to talk about.

0:16.6

It's about social media and I have a really weird relationship with it and I'm going to be talking about that today. But as per usual, we're going to start with the gratitude list. And I sit down and I think about three things I'm grateful for. So I love this. I love hearing from you guys about how you've been getting involved with this and kind of using this in your daily practice, which I'm really pleased to hear that

0:37.8

you're getting something from it. And if you haven't tried it yet, just try it. It takes a couple of

0:41.3

minutes and it can really, really change the trajectory of your day. So, let's get on with it. Three

0:46.7

things I'm grateful for. The first thing I'm grateful for is I've got an emergency dentist appointment

0:51.8

today at about 5.30pm and I am so in need of it. I've got a two fake in the bottom left of my mouth and it's been driving me insane for about two days. You know one of those things that you're kind of like aware of for a couple of weeks? You're like, oh, I should probably do something about that and you think, I'll be right. I'll just leave it. And then it's just become progressively more and more annoying. And last night I couldn't sleep very well. So I've had a really raging two fake for about two days. So I'm very, very pleased and very grateful that I managed to get in the emergency appointment tonight, half five. So that's where I'm going after this. Second thing I'm grateful for

1:28.2

is I'm about to go away on a little work trip with my wife and I'm so happy about it. You know,

1:36.2

don't get me wrong. I've been really busy. We kind of went on a holiday. We had a bit of time

1:40.7

away together in our beefa, which was fantastic. And then since we've got back,

1:49.3

it's just been nonstop, which is, you know, I'm not complaining. It's really good to be busy,

1:57.3

I suppose. But I find that word a bit hard to deal with sometimes because when you're not,

2:00.8

you want to be and when you are, all you want is a break, you know, and I think that's kind of very typical addict.

2:03.7

I always want to be somewhere else, you know, but I've been really, really full on busy recently,

2:09.2

which I hate saying that because, you know, like busy is such an overused term.

2:13.2

How are you, mate?

2:13.8

Yeah, good, busy, you know, such a shit thing to say.

2:16.6

But I have been quite busy

2:19.6

recently and i'm i'm i'm really looking forward to connecting you know i'm i'm miss her and um you know

2:25.0

we we become a little bit like ships in the night sometimes because i've been doing loads of

2:28.0

stuff with the band and she's been doing everything that goes into being her you know so it's um
