Summary

It doesn't get more quintessentially Mormon than a low-budget cultural hall wedding reception between two 20-year-olds who've known each other for a few months. Or so I thought, until I read the wedding story submissions for today's episode. I give the lay of the land on Mormon wedding culture before diving into the stories which include a temple ceremony panic attack, a mid-wedding-day loss of virginity and a sibling mega-wedding that should've made it on CNN. Enjoy!

G-I-R-L-S-C-A-N-P-S-C-A-N-P it's Girls Camp

0:11.6

Hello friends, hello campers. Welcome back to Girls Camp, I'm your host, Haley Rawl, and I have something

0:17.6

funny to tell you. It's a little bit meta because it's about podcasting and it's about saying the words I just said for this episode but not on this episode.

0:28.0

I will podcast to myself in my car sometimes like as a practice or as a trial run, and I remember when I was first thinking about starting a podcast, I didn't know if I could do it. I had never tried podcasting before. And Maddie Murphy of the bad

0:47.3

broadcast, correct me if I'm wrong Maddie, but I swear at some point in her podcast she was

0:51.5

talking about this and she said she would practice

0:54.2

monologging in her car before she actually started podcasting and so before I started

0:59.6

girls camp and I wanted to see if I could even podcast or monologue which by the way I think not having a co-host kind of makes

1:07.6

Podcasting quite different because you really are monologging. You're talking to yourself, essentially,

1:14.6

which is just not something that we really do.

1:18.0

So I didn't know if I could do it.

1:19.3

I didn't know if I would be good at it.

1:21.3

And anyway, before I started this podcast I spent a lot of time in my

1:26.7

car driving to and from wherever I was going just practicing podcasting I would practice introing. I would practice telling the story of me

1:36.3

leaving the church and so those first couple episodes I released I had essentially practiced them and not word for word.

1:43.3

I never script anything, I never memorize anything.

1:46.5

I really like being off the cuff.

1:48.9

And so when I just podcast out loud or monologue out loud to myself in the car it is really helpful for me

1:56.2

actually to form thoughts and ideas about what I want to share on the podcast and I never go through a whole episode or anything but I'll just

2:05.3

practice little tidbits of oh I want to talk about my wedding and then I'll just start talking about

2:09.7

my wedding to myself. So if you see me on the freeway and you see me talking, I am not talking to someone

2:16.8

over carplay on the phone, I'm probably just podcasting to myself. And the reason that this is
