Summary
This episode of the podcast is with pro barrel racer and barrel horse trainer, Kylie Weast. We caught up with Kylie via a phone call while she was at the Elite Futurity in Waco, TX that she will be competing in this weekend. Last weekend she wore her pro rodeo cap as she competed as one of the Top 10 WPRA Invitees from last years National Finals Rodeo, her first to qualify for, at RFD’s The American at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. This amazing horse woman comes by it naturally as she is a member of what we affectionally call “The First Family of Barrel Racing.” Her grandparents, parents, two sisters, and their families all participate in the sport and have played a pivotal role in what barrel racing and rodeo has become today. We talk about that, her recent trip to The American where she won 2nd on a horse she jumped on for the first time there (Heavenly Firewater), her training and rodeo career, her family, and much more. We were even able to answer a few questions listeners asked on social media about training, selecting a prospect, dealing with mental burn out, and the number one thing that must happen to create solid horses. This was a fun talk with a cowgirl that is a great person and super easy to cheer for. The importance that Kylie places on faith and family show through in how she competes and lives her life. We hope you enjoy the talk.
Life is short. Ride a Unicorn.
