Microsoft CEO Satina Della is inside the courthouse behind me here in Oakland.

We do expect to hear a lot more about Microsoft's role in this entire legal battle.

The backdrop here, Elon Musk, is suing over Open AI's transition away from its original nonprofit structure

into what is now an $850 billion AI giant.

So Microsoft is a co-defendant. Company is accused of aiding and abetting what

Musk alleges is OpenAI's breach of a charitable trust. Musk separately is accusing OpenAI

executives of unjust enrichment. Lawyers for Microsoft has said that the company was just a neutral

commercial partner in all of this. Both OpenAI and Microsoft deny any sort of wrongdoing and argue that Musk is a disgruntled competitor at this point.

All of it comes back to Microsoft's initial stake in this AI company.

If you remember, Microsoft invested about a billion dollars back in 2019, later added on $13 billion.

It also owns about a 27% piece of Open AI.

That is worth roughly $200 billion at this point.

Emails from Sachi Nadella to other Microsoft executives have been a big focus for Musk's legal team so far.

They include some threads with Nadella talking about investing in Open AI, the strategy behind it,

and then a fear at one point that Open AI might pivot to Amazon, rather, if Microsoft

did not invest. There was talk also needing a bit more certainty on that for-profit structure

before Microsoft got into this company. We'll expect to hear more about that today.

Musk's lawyers are aiming on the other

side to prove that Microsoft knew that it was helping encourage the nonprofit to abandon that mission.

So we'll see what Nadella has to say about that. So far, the trial, though, has been a who's who of Silicon Valley AI names.

We did hear from Elon Musk. And then last week got Open AI President Greg Brockman,

as well as Miramir Marotti. We do expect to hear from another big name in AI, Elias Sitskavar.
