For years, Chiquita Scott's family believed they knew who was responsible for her disappearance.

The problem was proving it. And as the

investigation stalled in the years past, they continued to point to the same person. The same man

they believed knew exactly what happened after Tricita vanished in June 2014.

But despite their suspicions, no answers came, and Tricita remained missing.

Then, more than a decade later, everything changed.

On this episode of Black Girl Gone, I revisit the case of Trichita Scott, a young mother

whose family spent years searching for answers and refusing to give up hope that one day the truth

would finally come to light. This is Trichita's story. When I first covered Trichita's story in 2022,

she was still missing, and at that point she had been gone for nearly eight years. Her family

still didn't know where she was, what had happened to her or whether they would ever get those

answers.

Today, that has changed.

In May 2006, investigators searching an abandoned property in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood made a discovery that finally answered a question that her family had been asking for nearly

12 years.

Buried in the backyard were human remains.

Days later, those remains were positively identified as Trichita Scott.

The discovery came after Carl Watts Jr.

The man Trichita's family had long suspected was responsible for her disappearance,

provided investigators with information about where her body could be found while serving a prison sentence for an unrelated murder.

But Trichita's story is bigger than a single disappearance.
