When Salania Reed was reported missing in 1987,

no one could have known how quickly this search for her

would turn into a homicide investigation.

Within hours, she was found dead.

She had been stabbed multiple times,

and investigators were left trying to piece together

what happened in the final hours of her life.

But despite the brutality of the crime, the case quickly went cold.

Years passed without answers.

Until decades later, advances in DNA technology led investigators back to evidence collected in 1987 and uncovered a connection

that may have been there from the very beginning.
