Summary

When Christine Rawle met her husband Ian, he took her and her three children on as his own. He had money, a home and he was infatuated with her - but their relationship was toxic. Despite this, the couple headed into their retirement, making each others lives miserable. But something I've recently been thinking about is how and if domestic abuse ends when a couple get

older. When they reach retirement age, when they get weaker physically and mentally,

what happens if the victim hasn't managed to leave? What does that look like? Statistics from the

charity Age UK say one in six adults over the age of 60, experience domestic abuse.

Sometimes that abuse is inflicted by a carer or family member other than their intimate partner.

But in 2003, the Office of National Statistics estimated that 3.2% of people from the ages 60 to 74

were experiencing domestic abuse from their partners and 1.4% of people over the age of 75.

In today's case, we're going to look at what can happen if domestic abuse and violence continues way after retirement age.

I'm Thank you. In the early 1990s, a man called Ian Rool was selling a car in the county of Devon in the south of England.

A woman called Christine came over to buy the car.

She was homeless and she had three children.

Ian was with another woman at the time, but something sparked between them at that meeting
