We are in 2009. We're in the rural outskirts of Adams County, Colorado.

And in this particular place, there are two houses sat side by side and nothing else around

them. No neighbours, no tourists, nothing. So when someone enters into one of those houses

in the middle of the night, it is clear

they know exactly where they're going and exactly why they're there. And by the end of that

evening, two people would be shot dead and there would be two prime suspects, both within the

same family. This is Red Rump, stories about the true victims of crime.

Our case today revolves around a man called Harold Enander, and he gets married to a woman called Geraldine.

And the two of them have a pretty happy first

couple of years of their marriage. They decide to have children. They have their first child,

a little baby boy called Jared, and then a second child, this time a baby girl, who they

call Kara. Now things are okay for the first couple of years, but very quickly it becomes apparent that this marriage is not a happy one

and especially with two children in the house things start to get quite tense quite quickly there are a lot of arguments things just aren't very happy

and so it's in 1985 that the couple decide to get a divorce. And as part of this divorce,

they decide they're going to split the two children up and mum's going to have custody of

Kara and dad's going to have custody of Jared. And it's during this time that Harold really

sets his sights on his work. So of course he is a dad and he's got sole custody at this point of Jared. And so

that's kind of his life. But alongside this, he's running a business called Aquahot. It's kind of a

heating systems business and by all accounts it's very successful. In fact, it grows to the point

where he has 65 employees working for him.

And he gets his son Jared involved and he gets Cara involved just to learn a little bit
