Hey, I'm Brian Hyatt, and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

So after 36 years, Paramount announced the end of MTV News this week.

And as of this week, MTV News existed mostly as a website, but in its televised

heyday it's hard to overemphasize just how much it meant to an entire generation.

To talk about what it was like to work at MTV News in its prime, I have some of the legends of that operation.

Kurt Loader, Tabitha Soren and John Norris.

I was also hoping to get Sway Kowaway and Succin Pac and a few other people, but we did get three giants.

We'll start off with the primary face of MTV News, Kurt Loader.

This week there's been this amazing outpouring for the heyday of MTV News and for you as the kind of Walter Cronkite of my generation.

I was very surprised everybody was very nice.

I think a lot of those people are just remembering their own youth

and saying, wow, that was a great time because I was 15 years. A lot of it is that it's really sweet that people

have been so nice about the whole thing. You never stopped writing. It feels like at your

core you think of yourself maybe more as a writer than a TV

anchor. I don't think they could have a career in television because MTV was just

such a special set of circumstances.

They had really good support network there.

It was the time and everything involved.

And I'm not really a TV person, I don't think.

I lack a certain ever-vesence and is really not present.

So yeah, I'm a writer.

I feel like I've been writing for a hundred years.
