Happy hump day and welcome to meet the press now. I'm Chuck Todd. Electoral politics in America have been shifting dramatically and suddenly in recent weeks. We've been chronicling it here

for you almost daily. And last night's election results put a big fat exclamation point on that

shift that we've been noting. Last night,

the Democrat Pat Ryan, won a special election to Congress in a swing district that's being

viewed as a bellwether for November, in part because voters in New York's 19th congressional

district correctly picked the presidential winner in 2012, 2016, and again in 2020, meaning

it's an Obama-Trump Biden district. And with 11 weeks to go

until the 22 midterms, Ryan's two-point margin of victory last night is virtually identical to President

Biden's margin in the district in 2020, suggesting the winds aren't blowing nearly as strong in the

Republican Party's direction as they were pre-Dob's decision. We're going to speak to

Pat Ryan in just a moment. And while it's not a perfect indicator of political moods, the sheer

special elections have shown a clear shift in our national politics. And they do, we talk about
