Summary

Norway's Ayla Agren headed for America with dreams of racing her way up the Road To Indy and landing a ride in the NTT IndyCar Series. Despite her obvious talent, a lack of consistent sponsorship ended her time on the American open-wheel ladder following the 2017 USF2000 season. Undeterred she's continued to work at finding a way to revive her dream. Selected as one of 20 drivers for the second season of the W Series, Agren will have to wait until the championship resumes after the 2020 calendar was cancelled due to COVID-19. Her story of humility and perseverance is an inspiring one, and with expertise to offer, she'll be at the Indy 500 serving as Ben Hanley's spotter for the No. 81 DragonSpeed Chevy entry. Agren's goal, however, is to get her career back on track, scale the Road To Indy, and join the field of 33 drivers in a future edition of the Indy 500. The guest happens to be Isla Agrin, someone who I have really looked at as someone with talent, real talent, to go far on the road to Indy, hopefully to make it to Indycar.

Her story, though, one that is not particularly unfamiliar for young women trying to make it to IndyCar.

0:30.1

Here at least, a story of someone who has demonstrated unquestionable skill,

0:36.8

but has not had the financial backing to explore it and

0:40.9

develop it fully.

0:42.5

Spoke with Ila, I think about a good two weeks ago.

0:46.4

Weekend before the start of practice for the Indy500, we'd actually been playing

0:50.6

phone tag, an interview tag for a couple of weeks prior to that.

0:55.4

Glad that we got on the phone.

0:57.5

And this falls mostly into a My Racing Life and Career type episode.

1:03.1

But nonetheless, hope you enjoy learning about her.

1:06.2

And this is someone who, when given the opportunity and funding, everything she needed to demonstrate

1:12.9

her talent, she made big waves.

1:15.6

It's been a couple of years, though, 2017, since we last had her on the road to Indy, and

1:21.8

even those last couple of years, partial seasons, funding running out, not able to really go in with no concerns other than trying

1:31.5

to attack and become a champion.

1:34.1

Thankful that the W series selected her for the 2020 season.

1:38.9

Sadly, though, with COVID-19, that season has been pushed back.

1:43.3

So will we see Ila getting what we believe will be a proper shot in the W series?

1:49.5

Using that to pivot here back to America and go after her road to Indie Dreams and get to IndyCar?

1:56.0

That sure would make me happy.
