Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode one hundred and ninety two of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! As we approach that glorious time of year where we celebrate mothers, those who live with us and those who have moved on, what an ideal time for Pip to have a sit down and chat with his own Mum about her Mum! It’s a veritable Mumapalooza in here (or Mumfest). You might recognise her warm, friendly tones and unmistakable laugh from her appearance on episode 51 of the podcast, where Pip was joined by her and his Dad too, but this time it’s ALL about Mum!

You may be familiar with the song ‘Cowboi’ by Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - if not you’ll have a chance to get familar at the end of the podcast as it’s included in its entirety - which involves details of an attack, and as Pip notes on this podcast, is the only track he’s made which is based on a true, personal story. The story itself is based on an experience his Grandmother went through, which is relayed here by Pip’s Mum, and as it turns out, Pip’s Mum has an entire backlog of wild and crazy tales to tell about her (including the attack dealt with in ‘Cowboi’) - a mix of all the moods and emotions, and dealing with everything from the delightful to the plain surreal, all relayed with pride and detail and in most cases, that fantastic smile-inducing laugh which forms a great percentage of this episode. Fancy a sneak peak at the anecdote setlist? Expect to hear about cakes and canoe paddles, horseriding mishaps, yoga, “a little job”, the wedding, Stamford Beach, cowboys and playing dead and one that shan’t be spoiled but let’s just say the topic leaves Pip scratching his head… A wonderful and intimate story telling session which offers that ever so special element that podcasts can really deliver on - the feeling of unobtrusively sitting in on a conversation which involves you directly and offers some fantastic stories from real life that you may not otherwise hear in any other way. Priceless entertainment! And hopefully this might inspire you to crack open a conversation with available family members about your greater family sphere, to see what nuggets you will uncover… There are doubtless many to be enjoyed! Have fun, and take this chance to listen in on some ace memories and maybe have a little run through of your own memories too… We’ve all got some treasure to hold dear.

I had a realisation the other day which was kind of a beautiful one. I realised that

0:57.1

the laugh I have heard most in my life is my mum's and it's because she's a ridiculously

1:03.6

laughing person. So a lot of this podcast is my mum laughing. If buddy piece edited out all the

1:08.8

laughs, it would be about 10 minutes long but I just thought I was a beauty. I was really happy

1:14.0

with that realisation that that's easily the laugh of her though is I've literally asked the

1:17.6

phone before and she's laughing about absolutely nothing. So yeah, but her mum, I realised we've got

1:25.3

a lot of great stories about her. So I said let's have a chat about her. I mean, I explain all

this in the podcast. So let's just get on with it. This is the mother's day special with my mum,

Jenny Mead's talking about her mum, Joan Helena Legtham.

1:56.0

Right, I am joined today by my mum. How are you mum? I'm fine, thank you. I feel I should give you

2:12.0

a full name introduction because you're only mum to me and Ian. So I guess you're Jenny Mead's

2:19.3

in some way. But mum is in some size. And we're doing a mother's day special and I'm not sure I've

2:28.4

told you how this came about. I told you I wanted to do it. So what we're going to do is you're

2:32.4

going to tell some stories about your mum because there's some good ones and how it came about,
